Vitruvian App UX

A connected fitness app for a custom workout experience.

User Experience Design
Interaction Design

Overview

Vitruvian partnered with Bluntmedia to design the first full UI/UX experience for their training app across iOS and Android.

Goals

01
Establish a modern UI and interaction model from scratch
02
Build a flexible design system for iOS and Android
03
Define clear training flows, data displays and onboarding
04
Align design with hardware, brand and future feature expansion

The Approach

With no previous app, no UI groundwork and no design system in place, the team needed a clear direction for how the product should look, feel and function. The prototype validated the concept, but the experience required structure, consistency and a visual identity that matched Vitruvian’s high-performance hardware.

Working closely with the in-house team, we created unique features for users to track exercise activity data, build custom workouts, follow instructor-led classes and join self-paced programs.

Design Execution

The final interface introduced a clean performance-led aesthetic anchored by predictable interaction patterns and a strong visual hierarchy. We created an iOS-first UI kit that included Android variants where needed, ensuring each platform felt native but still part of a unified experience. Components, icons, states and data displays were systematised, giving developers a reliable foundation and speeding up feature rollout.

Activity & Exercise Data

The app records all of your workout data, including the number of reps, sets, and exercises completed, as well as your overall workout duration. It also allows you to track your progress over time, providing personalised performance insights to help you stay accountable and motivated.

Track your weekly, monthly or yearly progress by total reps, volume load or time under tension. The app also highlights what muscle groups you’ve been targeting and which you need to work on.

Classes and Programs

The app offers more than 300 classes and personal training content from expert fitness trainers. Users can quickly navigate through exercise categories to find specific instructor-led classes.  We also designed a filtering system to search by equipment, muscle groups, trainers and class length. Once you’ve found the right class, favourite it so you can quickly access it next time.

Programs provide structured workout routines that can be self-paced or instructor-led. Users are shown a checklist timeline outlining daily classes and rest days when they join a program.

Workouts

The Vitruvian app works with advanced algorithms to provide you with the ultimate workout experience. It features a selection of different training modes and over 200+ targeted exercises, allowing you to build customised workouts.

Quickly add Individual exercises to workouts with adjustable reps, force and rest times. Users can build sets that ramp up in force with the progression modes to give themselves a tough workout. The app also includes a Scaled Workouts feature that automatically increases weight based on your personal best results.

Profile

Users can check a global leaderboard, check the most-used muscle groups and unlock achievement badges - all to keep motivated.

Final outcome

The project delivered Vitruvian’s first complete app UI—cohesive, scalable and ready for real-world training. The unified design system aligned both iOS and Android development, improved speed of implementation and created a strong visual identity that matches the brand’s premium training hardware. It now serves as the foundation for future updates and product evolution.

Bluntmedia were great to work with and slotted straight into our growing team. They helped us untangle some complex ideas and gave us a clear, scalable design we could confidently build from.

Client context

Harvest Technology builds low-latency remote streaming solutions for industries where live video, audio, and data need to travel reliably from the field to decision-makers. NodeStream is their flagship SaaS platform, enabling real-time remote operations across defence, mining, offshore, and industrial environments.

Our Role

Bluntmedia embedded directly into Harvest’s product workflow, collaborating day-to-day with engineers and stakeholders. We focused on understanding the realities of remote streaming, including latency, signal reliability, multi-input management, and operator usage during live sessions.
